Angel Island Picnic

The ferry schedule has changed over the years.  At the present time you can catch the ferry in San Francisco or Tiburon.  Both ferries start service at 10:00 am and the last ferry leaves the island at 3:30 pm.  The park is open until sunset.  If you would like to stay on the island after your last ferry we can take you back to Tiburon on our boat.  You must take the Tiburon Ferry if you want to stay on the island past 3:30 pm.      Our boat will leave for Tiburon at 5:30 pm.

We plan to have the picnic in the lower meadow close to the waters edge.  As you depart the ferry, walk along the cove toward the large grassy area past the snack shop.  Look for the shade covers that we will set up.  The Island has hiking and several points of interest.  There is a tram for those that do not want to walk.  The Island also has guided tours to many of the historical points of interest.  For the serious hikers you can climb to the top of mount Livermore.  On a clear day you can see four bridges from the summit.  The climb will take you to an elevation of about 700 feet. Lunch will be ready at 1:00 pm.

Climate:          Dress in layers.  The temperatures will range from the 50s to high 80s.

Location:         Meet at the ferry dock in Tiburon.  The ferry is $10.25 for round trip transportation to the island.  This price includes the park admission fee.  The ferry tickets are purchased on board.  They take Cash or checks only, no credit cards are accepted.

Directions:        Take Highway 4 west to Highway 80.  Go south on Highway 80 toward San Francisco.  Exit on Central Boulevard turn right.  Turn right onto  Highway 580.  Take 580 across the Richmond Bridge.  There is a $3.00 toll to get across the bridge.  Follow the signs to highway 101 south.  Exit onto Tiburon Boulevard (Highway 131).  Take this road east.  This will take you into the City of Tiburon.  The road will come to a turn around in the middle of town.  There is parking in this area.  The ferry is across the street.

Time:                The Ferry departs at 10:00 am 11:00 am 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

Lunch will be served in the picnic area on the island at 1:00 pm.  The exact location will not be determined until the day of the event.  Look for the shade tents in the grass lawn west of the ferry drop off area.

(REMEMBER IF YOU WANT TO STAY LATER THAN 3:30 PM TAKE THE TIBURON FERRY)

Berkeley area ideas

The Scharffen Berger chocolate factory tour in Berkeley near Mischa's
house.  Plan ahead and make your reservations today!  Note
restrictions:  visitors must be age 10 and above and everyone must
where closed toe shoes (it's freezing here so you wouldn't want
sandals anyway)
http://www.scharffenberger.com/

Also, the best cafe in Berkeley (IMHO=in Mischa’s humble opinion):  Caffe Trieste, at Dwight and San Pablo, just three blocks from Mischa's house

UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens - way up on top of the mountain with

Established in 1890, the Garden's 34 acres contain over 12,000
different kinds of plants from all over the world arranged by region"
